The Impact on Student Learning (ISL) assignment gives the teacher candidate the opportunity to:

  • Determine the impact of instruction on all students’ learning,
  • Use assessments to make research-based informed decisions about instruction,
  • Analyze and communicate students’ performance results, and
  • Reflect on teaching performance.

The ISL indicators are incorporated into seven domains:

  1. Contextual Factors
  2. Learning Goals and Objectives for Unit and/or Group Lessons
  3. Assessment
  4. Instructional Design
  5. Instructional Decision-Making
  6. Analysis of Student Learning
  7. Reflection

The ISL consists of 24 indicators with individualized rubrics for each indicator. Each rubric includes the following four levels:

  • Exceeds Standard (3 points)
  • Meets Standard (2 points)
  • Needs Improvement (1 point)
  • Unacceptable (0 points)

Each item on the ISL will be assessed and scored using the rubric for that item.
